Out sourcing a developer

When ever I think of out sourcing, I think of it being to a Asian bassed company, but after listening to a podcasts by Paul Boag and working at Mccann I have learnt that many design companies will out source the coding to another companies.

This is a great idea for any design company who are not up to date with the latest guidelines. Just browsing the Daily Slurp i came across a company in the USA who are great example. Xhtml Slicer will build your design into a beautiful coded XHTML and CSS website, all for $300 which is around £150. I think that is good value for any designer who is snowed under with work. Great news for designers who want to spend time designing and not coding!

CMS WYSIWYG

Over the past year I have found myself working more and more with building content management systems. The have all been very basic and only ever given users basic control and they had to write their own html or just include text. Well I have come across a hand tool. It is call TinyMCE and it is a Javascript WYSIWYG editor, I am going to include this on my latest project.

The web design survey

The lack of knowledge known about people who design and build websites made it difficult for me to find information on the competition and my expectations of what to expect when I leave uni. A list apart are running a web design survey to find more about the people behind the web sites. If you have or are going to start designing web sites then take the survey.

In search of the big apple

As I said in my last post, I have an ambition to work over in New York, well after researching into it and getting some advice of a tutor I have come across the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE).

From what I gather the CIEE help students and graduates to work abroad. After researching I have found that the most relevant program for me would be Professional Career Training USA.

This program allows me to train anywheere in the US for up to 18 months in a field that is related to my career or professional qualifications. I can apply any time of the year. On completing my training, the program would allow me an additional 30 days to explore the US with the money that I have earned.

To be eligible for the program I must

  • Be between 20 and 40 years (yes)
  • Hold A-levels or equivalent (yes)
  • Have a university degree, or have completed a professional certificate or and apprenticeship of at lest 2 years (fingers crossed will soon have a degree)
  • Have fluent spoken and written English skill (yes)
  • Be based in the UK (yes)

So I only have to make sure I get my degree, then I will tick all boxes. I now have the fun task of finding a placement in the USA. I have contacted the UK representatives, istplus.com. I have asked for some advice for contacting the companies I want to work for as I thing this may take me some time!

well I download the form from the UK representatives website, istplus.com. The form is a pretty lengthy to fill in
